NIGHT OUT TRADITION
Dear SHDA Family. At tonights meeting there were several questions about the origin of "National Night Out." I just wanted to share some info for those who were interested.
National Night Out is a community-police awareness-raising event in the United States and Canada. It is observed annually on the first Tuesday in August.
National Night Out was developed as a crime prevention program that emphasizes building a partnership between the police and the community. It provides information, educational materials, and technical assistance for the development of effective year-long community-police partnerships that can reduce crime, violence, and substance abuse at the community level.
National Night Out events are planned around the country. They include a multitude of local events, such as block parties, cookouts, parades, contests, youth activities, and seminars.

SHDA members and neighbors enjoyed a sunny day at Jackson Lake. The highlight of this year’s gathering was the presence of more families with children and teenagers, which SHDA President Walter Thomas as happy to see and hoped was a trend for the future. Everyone enjoyed the families and the children added a happy note to the day.
Oh, and we can’t forget the goatherders, keeping the flocks of young and old goats who coveted a barbecued hot dog.
Children and Teens from the South Hull Neighborhood who attended the picnic with their families were a welcome addition to the fun.
Goat herding seemed a favorite pastime at the picnic. Goats and their kids felt they had every right to crash the party held in their pasture at Jackson Lake,
